Mirae Asset Securities has finalized plans to acquire all shares of Sanko Securities, a subsidiary of Okasan Securities Group, and is targeting completion within fiscal 2026. Mirae Asset Securities is considering a proposal to acquire all shares of Sanko Securities, a subsidiary of Okasan Securities Group, as it seeks to enter Japan’s equity market for the first time. The acquisition is scheduled to be completed within fiscal 2026, providing a platform to conduct equity and bond trading and underwriting operations locally.
The acquisition will proceed through the acquisition of all shares via an intermediate holding company established in the United States, with the proposal expected to be approved by the respective boards of directors on the 29th. The parties involved estimate the transaction value at approximately ¥5 billion, or around ¥42.5 billion in Japanese yen.
Following completion of the acquisition, Mirae Asset Securities will secure a platform to register as a Type I Financial Instruments Business Operator in Japan and may focus primarily on equity and bond trading and underwriting. Sanko Securities has historically focused on proprietary trading, while its retail business has been transferred as part of Okasan Securities Group.
The proposed sale of Global X-managed ETFs to Okasan Securities customers is also under discussion as an area of cooperation. Together with the transfer of part of Okasan Online Securities’ business to SBI Securities in 2026, cooperation between the two companies is expected to advance amid the restructuring of traditional securities sales and online asset management.
