Azbil Kimmon has begun a demonstration of flow measurement and leak detection with 27 water utilities nationwide. The effectiveness of leak detection will be assessed using flowIQ2200.
Azbil Kimmon Co., Ltd. has begun a demonstration project with 27 water utilities nationwide, including Hirosaki City in Aomori Prefecture and Fuji City in Shizuoka Prefecture, using the next-generation ultrasonic water meter flowIQ2200, which has primary-side leak detection functionality. The demonstration will assess the results from 3 perspectives: technology, management and operations, and economic value, quantitatively evaluating such effects as improved technical leak-detection accuracy, more efficient operations and improved revenue water rates.
As part of the demonstration, flowIQ2200 meters will be installed at locations of concern in each area. If a leak is detected, on-site inspections and repairs are planned. A total of 32 locations in Hirosaki City and 190 locations in Fuji City are designated for installation, and the volume of leakage will be determined through visualisation using existing meters.
The project will proceed under a structure for selling and operating Kamstrup’s ultrasonic smart water meters in Japan after obtaining type approval in the country. Azbil plans to use data analysis on Kamstrup’s cloud platform and link meter-reading and alarm displays with its own cloud service.
Future announcements will be made at the Nagasaki Water Exhibition, to be held in Nagasaki City from 21 to 23 October 2026, where an overview of the demonstration project and demonstration cases will be presented. The exhibition booth is No.69, and presentations of the flowIQ2200 demonstration cases and an operating-monitoring solution are planned.
