The Canadian government has announced plans to impose new tariffs on imports from the United States from 8 September. The tariffs will cover a wide range of products, primarily steel and dairy products.
Following the U.S. government's imposition of 50% additional tariffs on imports from Canada on the 22nd, Canadian Prime Minister Carney announced that Canada would introduce new tariffs on some imports from the United States from 8 September in response.
The products covered will include steel, dairy products and electronic equipment, with the government saying that "details will be announced within the next few days." The prime minister pointed to excessive demands and said that Canada would reject an unfavorable agreement if concessions were insufficient.
Greer, the U.S. trade representative, said in an interview with FOX News that "no further talks with Canada are planned," indicating that the United States would proceed with measures in response to Canada's retaliation.
