Kansai Electric Power-affiliated かんでんエンジニアリング announced that it will use AI to automate work from surveying through drawing creation for transmission equipment construction in underground spaces. A demonstration reduced work time by approximately 80%, and the company is aiming for full-scale operations in fiscal 2027.
A demonstration was conducted to automate with AI the process of surveying and creating drawings showing the positions of cables and equipment in underground spaces, which forms the basis for renewal work on underground transmission facilities. The method creates 3D data from photographs taken with a smartphone and incorporates it into drawings.
Drawing preparation, which previously took 3 days, is expected to be completed in approximately 4.5 hours. Although workers will still be required to enter manholes, the approach is expected to significantly reduce the workload. 3D data processing was demonstrated jointly with bestat.
The demonstration was led by Kansai Electric Power Group company かんでんエンジニアリング as part of an initiative to automate the creation of drawings for underground spaces using AI. The company is aiming for full-scale use from fiscal 2027 and is considering expanding operations in the future.
