The Japan Drone Business Support Association has launched a new “AI Coach” category on its flight operations support app, dronebiz.app. The feature reads flight logs from DJI drones, scores piloting out of 100, replays flight paths, and provides feedback.
The service was developed against the backdrop of challenges in practical drone piloting: instruction based solely on an instructor’s verbal guidance can be difficult to understand, and it is not easy to identify one’s own weaknesses from a remote location. By analyzing drone flight logs and quantifying shortcomings, the service aims to provide material for instruction.
AI Coach is a new category on dronebiz.app for users ranging from beginners to professionals. Supported models include DJI aircraft such as the Phantom 4 and Mavic series. In addition to pre- and post-flight checks and recordkeeping, users can upload flight logs directly to calculate an overall score and scores for each category.
The assessment covers 6 criteria: smoothness of stick operation, hovering stability, altitude maintenance, vertical movement, straight-line flight, and the accuracy of circular and figure-eight flight paths. Turning exercises are automatically identified by type, and the flight path is displayed overlaid with the tolerance band. Overall feedback is provided in Japanese text, showing users what to practice next.
The service is also scheduled to add features for recording practice histories and tracking progress. DBA has established a business partnership with DPA, and dronebiz.app is expected to become available to DBA schools and DPA-certified schools as well.
