During October’s 3R Promotion Month, Nabari City began collaborating with Oikura, operated by the city and Market Enterprise, to promote the reuse of unwanted items. The parties aim to reduce waste and help create a circular economy through services including on-site purchasing.
Nabari City, represented by Mayor Hiroyuki Kitagawa (北川裕之), and Market Enterprise entered into an agreement to establish a system for reusing unwanted items rather than discarding them, with collaboration scheduled to begin on 28 October 2026.
The parties will introduce a system using the Oikura platform that allows residents to request single valuations and purchase offers for unwanted items. The initiative aims to reduce waste and help create a circular economy. It is being driven in part by pressure on the waste pit at the Iga-Nanbu Clean Center, and is expected to reduce municipal processing costs and stimulate the secondary market.
Nabari City aims to increase the likelihood that large items and products covered by the Home Appliance Recycling Law can be purchased, while making it easier for residents to sell unwanted items from their homes through on-site purchasing. Going forward, information for residents is expected to be posted on the Nabari City website, enabling them to apply directly for a single valuation.
Through cooperation between businesses and local government, the initiative aims to address social and economic issues in support of creating a circular economy.
