Subaru announced its latest update, Applied D. The Impreza drops e-BOXER and will be offered with gasoline engines only, while the Crosstrek lineup has been streamlined to S:HEV models only. Although the two vehicles share the same platform, their price ranges and powertrains have been further differentiated.
The Subaru Impreza and Crosstrek, announced as Applied D on 17 September 2026, have been updated so that the former is now offered only with a pure 2.0-liter direct-injection gasoline engine, with e-BOXER discontinued, while the latter’s lineup has been standardized with S:HEV and four-wheel drive across all models. The two vehicles have been substantially separated from their previous combination of a shared platform and powertrain choices: the Impreza is moving toward a character that emphasizes nimbleness and cost, while the Crosstrek is strengthening its positioning around high efficiency and a higher price range as a “petite premium” model.
Ignition Red has been added as a new body color for the Impreza, and the latest-generation Impreza was introduced as the current model using Subaru’s global platform. The Crosstrek’s adoption of S:HEV across the lineup strengthens fuel efficiency and torque characteristics, while its higher price range could affect the options available to users. The Impreza lineup has been consolidated around the Smart Edition, with prices of ¥2,865,500 for front-wheel-drive models and ¥3,135,000 for four-wheel-drive models. The Crosstrek Premium S:HEV is priced at ¥3,833,500 and the EX at ¥4,053,500.
