Shimano has launched the OCEA JIGGER CT reel for offshore jigging. Its digital counter provides an intuitive view of water depth, while the overall height has been reduced by 2.4 mm and the reel made lighter. Development is also reportedly under way on support for the next-generation Tankenmaru system, designed for Bluetooth connectivity.
Shimano has announced the OCEA JIGGER CT, a large baitcasting reel for offshore use. Its rugged body, which does not use a level wind, now features a digital counter that displays water depth numerically.
Compared with the previous model, the reel’s overall height has been reduced by 2.4 mm. The use of a CR1632 battery keeps the weight down, making the reel lighter and more compact than the current model. The S-Compact body design improves the integrated feel when gripping the reel.
The drive system uses HAGANE Body, Micro Module Gear and InfinityDrive. The newly added SilentDrive suppresses play and provides a smoother rotational feel when retrieving line.
The drag rating has increased from 12 kg to 13 kg compared with the previous model. An 8-mm-longer crank handle, a handle knob enlarged by 6 mm and a thicker star drag provide powerful handling. The knob seals, which improve water resistance, and enhanced resistance in saltwater environments are also emphasized.
Support for connectivity with the next-generation Tankenmaru system via Bluetooth is reportedly under development, drawing attention to the future connectivity between the reel and Tankenmaru.
