Gift shop タカノ has begun preparing to file for bankruptcy and suspended operations on 24 September. Total liabilities are reportedly approximately ¥220 million as of the end of the fiscal year ended June 2025.
タカノ is a gift shop headquartered in Chichibu, Saitama, operating stores in Chichibu and outlets on major e-commerce sites. It was founded in 1969 and reorganised as a corporation in 1986.
In addition to declining store sales due to the impact of COVID-19, the company continued to post losses amid price competition with peers as sales remained centred on e-commerce sites. Annual sales were approximately ¥484 million in the fiscal year ended June 2023.
Subsequently, sales fell to approximately ¥259 million in the fiscal year ended June 2025 following the impact of its withdrawal from major e-commerce sites, resulting in a substantial loss. Although the company attempted to revise its repayment plan with financial institutions, its business did not recover, and it abandoned the continuation of operations.
The company suspended operations on 24 September, entrusted post-closure proceedings to lawyer Matsumiya Tetsuro (松宮 徹郎) and others, and began preparing to file for bankruptcy. Total liabilities were reported to be approximately ¥220 million as of the end of the fiscal year ended June 2025.
