The November electricity rate for a standard household using 260 kWh per month will be ¥9,158 under the Metered Lighting A plan, an increase of ¥1,326 from the previous month. The monthly bill will consequently exceed ¥9,000, renewing the record high for the first time in 1.5 years.
Chugoku Electric Power explained that the increase resulted from the end of government subsidies, combined with higher wheeling charges for the transmission and distribution network and higher fuel prices.
The company said that the impact of power-generation fuel costs and transmission-network charges were among the factors pointing to a substantial increase. Standard household rates are expected to remain elevated compared with the past.
The announcement indicates another period of a significant increase in households' electricity burden, drawing attention to the end of government support measures and trends in the energy market.
