BYD Auto Japan has unveiled the new Racco, a kei-class commercial BEV. The model features a high roof that qualifies it as a super-high-roof kei vehicle and power sliding doors on both sides, while emphasizing the comfort suited to everyday use and the quietness characteristic of EVs.
On the technology side, the Racco is equipped with the X Pack battery integration technology, which combines the power unit and motor controller beneath the floor. Safety features include improved impact absorption and body rigidity, as well as laser welding in the roof area.
The lineup comprises 3 grades: 200, 300Plus and 300Premium. Driving ranges of 210 km and 320 km are available. Prices are ¥2.145 million, ¥2.398 million and ¥2.497 million, respectively, and a ¥150,000 subsidy applies.
The model attracted considerable media attention, and orders topped 1,000 units within 2 weeks of its launch. The top-end Premium accounts for approximately 80% of orders.
During test drives, the model made a favorable impression with its quietness, smooth ride, interior storage and high-quality finish, suggesting that it could become a new staple in the kei-car market.
