ABB and Nippon Express have opened ABB TOKYO SERVICE WORKSHOP, the first ABB service workshop in Japan, inside a Nippon Express warehouse in Shinagawa, Tokyo. The facility will operate as a base designed to strengthen on-site response capabilities and integrate training and parts-supply functions.
Nippon Express, part of the NXP Holdings group, and ABB have established ABB TOKYO SERVICE WORKSHOP inside a Nippon Express warehouse in Tokyo. This will enable the provision of faster technical support, repair and diagnostic services to customers using products from ABB's Electrification business division.
The new facility is the first service workshop in Japan and will conduct live-equipment demonstrations and testing of ABB products, including high- and low-voltage switchgear, as well as training and certification in Japan. This is expected to improve on-site response capabilities and reduce equipment downtime.
The facility is strategically located near Tokyo Port, the Oi Container Terminal, Tokyo Freight Terminal Station and Haneda Airport. It aims to ensure stable supply to sites in Japan and overseas by leveraging Nippon Express's logistics network. The facility combines training and parts-center functions, providing integrated services ranging from technician development to the supply of maintenance parts.
The background includes rising electricity demand, the expansion of data centers and semiconductor-related facilities, and progress in decarbonization. These developments have created a need to address challenges including the training of specialized maintenance personnel and the stable supply of maintenance parts. ABB TOKYO SERVICE WORKSHOP is intended to establish a structure capable of addressing these challenges.
