Shimadzu Corporation announced that it had invested in Kinish through its CVC fund. Kinish is a food-tech company seeking to develop next-generation dairy products using plant molecular farming technology.
In addition to selling rice-based ice cream under the name The Rice Creamery, Kinish is conducting research and development into technology for expressing milk proteins, specifically casein, in rice plants. It aims eventually to commercialise products including ice cream, cheese and yoghurt made from rice produced using this technology.
Through its investment, Shimadzu Corporation plans to collaborate with Kinish by supporting its research and development, advancing analytical evaluation and quality-control methods for raw materials, products and cultivation environments, and applying measurement technology in plant factories.
The Shimadzu Future Innovation Fund is formally named Shimadzu Future Innovation Investment Limited Partnership. It has total capital commitments of ¥5 billion and a 10-year term.
