McDonald’s has announced that 4 staple items, including the popular Chikichi, will be discontinued on 20 October 2026. The stated rationale is to limit the burden on restaurant operations and create a cycle of new product launches.
McDonald’s Japan has formally announced that sales of 4 staple items, including Chikichi (Mac Chicken Cheese), will end on 20 October. The affected items are Chikichi, Chicken Filet-O, Teriyaki Chicken Filet-O and Shaka Chiki. The company says it will continue to review the lineup sequentially in conjunction with new product launches.
The reported background to the discontinuation is the recognition that adding too many items makes ingredients and cooking processes more complex, increasing the burden on restaurant operations. The company explains that it aims to reorganize the lineup through regular menu rationalization and encourage customers to visit.
According to supplementary comments from the expert, Chikichi had been a staple for nearly 10 years since its introduction in 2016 and had previously undergone a name change. At the same time, a possible return has been suggested, and fans have expressed regret over its discontinuation.
Looking ahead, a partial menu review is scheduled to take place from October onward. McDonald’s describes this as part of its efforts to continue providing an appealing menu.
