The Nikkei 225 opened at ¥65,557.99, down ¥319.63, with selling dominant against the backdrop of lower U.S. equities and rising long-term interest rates.
The Nikkei 225 opened at ¥65,557.99 on 29 September, down ¥319.63, starting lower in response to the decline in the previous day's U.S. stock market. In addition to declines in the Dow Jones Industrial Average and Nasdaq, uncertainty surrounding the Middle East and concerns about higher crude oil prices weighed on investor sentiment.
Market participants said the 75-day moving average was being watched as resistance, limiting near-term upside potential. Expectations that investors would wait for the release of the U.S. August PCE deflator and Micron's earnings also discouraged buying.
Among the stocks with the highest trading value on the TSE Prime market today, Nippon Steel, INPEX, NYK Line, Toyota, Mitsubishi Corp. and Mitsubishi UFJ declined, while SUMCO, Disco, Lasertec, Keyence, Sony Group, Nintendo and Hitachi rose.
Kurasas Chemical will also make its debut on the TSE Standard market. By sector, oil and coal products, marine transportation and iron and steel were among the top decliners, while precision instruments and electric appliances were among the top gainers.
