Borussia Mönchengladbach of Germany’s top flight signed Japanese players Zento Uno (宇野禅斗) and Daiki Hashioka (橋岡大樹) this summer. Local media reported that “a new wind is blowing in from Asia” and that a Japanese network will support their adjustment.
Borussia Mönchengladbach of Germany’s top flight signed Zento Uno (宇野禅斗) from Shimizu S-Pulse during this summer’s transfer window and brought in Daiki Hashioka (橋岡大樹) from Slavia Prague on loan. Local media described the pair’s arrival as part of the growing number of Japanese players in Germany and closer ties between Japan and Germany.
Yuki Otsu (大津祐樹), Ko Itakura (板倉滉) and Shio Fukuda (福田師王) have previously been at the club, while the signing of Shuto Machino (町野修斗) last season is said to have further strengthened its network of Japanese players. With the arrival of the two latest signings, the club now has a total of 3 Japanese players.
Uno’s permanent transfer from Shimizu S-Pulse was announced, while Hashioka’s move was completed at the end of July following Konoplia’s departure. Local media reported that “a new wind is blowing in from Asia” and suggested that the Japanese community living in Düsseldorf would provide support with their adjustment.
It has also been pointed out that the Japanese network, including Machino, will help Uno and Hashioka adapt to their new environment. These developments are reportedly strengthening the club’s relationship with Japan, alongside cooperation with Japanese companies and the convenience of Japanese players’ residential location.
