BETA Technologies, the electric aircraft manufacturer that conducted a demonstration flight in Kyushu, Japan, has indicated that it plans to enter the defense market. At the Farnborough International Airshow, it unveiled a military VTOL aircraft for the first time.
In April 2026, U.S. electric aircraft manufacturer BETA Technologies conducted a demonstration flight in Kyushu, Japan, using its civilian ALIA CX300 aircraft.
Just 3 months later, the company unveiled its military hybrid VTOL aircraft, the ALIA MV250, for the first time in Farnborough, UK.
The background is said to include the time required to obtain certification for civilian aircraft and establish mass-production capabilities, while the defense sector operates under a different certification framework. BETA has indicated that it plans to move forward with entry into the defense market.
The timing of future testing and commercial operations in Japan has not been determined at this point, and the outlook for domestic rollout remains uncertain.
