JR Central opened to the public the construction site for the Kanagawa Station on the Linear Chuo Shinkansen, being built south of Hashimoto Station in Sagamihara, Kanagawa Prefecture. This was the first time that the site conditions and part of the construction work had been made available to the public.
The site is approximately 30 m underground and is expected to be approximately 680 m long and up to approximately 50 m wide. The third basement level was opened to the public, including the platforms and structures.
Completion was initially targeted for March 2027, but excavation work and other factors have caused a delay of approximately 3 years. Completion of construction is now expected around spring 2029. JR Central Executive Vice President and Director Mizuno Takanori (水野 高憲) said that he understood the high level of expectations.
JR Central plans to present by the end of the year its outlook for the opening date of the Shinkansen line between Shinagawa and Nagoya. The focus will be on determining the opening date for the section between the two stations.
