PFN has released PLaMo 3 Translate, a translation-focused large language model, as open weights. The release was made available on Hugging Face, and companies and individuals meeting the sales requirement for the most recent fiscal year will reportedly be able to use it free of charge under a specific license.
The model is designed to run on devices, enabling translation processing without the cloud in edge environments such as smartphones and internal servers. It supports 53 languages, including Japanese and English, and is described as capable of producing translations quickly without an internet connection.
4 sizes are available: 0.8B, 2B, 8B and 31B, allowing users to choose according to their intended use. The provision of high-quality translation even with the smaller models is cited as a key feature.
The conditions for applying the PLaMo Community License were explained in connection with the release, including the scope of edge use and the framework for commercial use.
