Hitachi, Ltd., Brookfield Japan, Hartree Partners Singapore and Tokyo Gas announced that they had signed a memorandum of understanding on 30 September 2026 concerning collaboration to realize green data centers in Japan. The collaboration aims to formulate a basic concept for green data centers co-located with power generation facilities and develop a standard model that can be deployed flexibly.
The objectives include reducing excessive dependence on grid power, expanding options for data-center locations, contributing to local energy production and consumption, shortening project start-up times and ensuring scalability. The concept is intended to contribute to decarbonization.
As the first project, the companies will formulate plans to develop green data centers in the Kanto and Kyushu regions. They will proceed with due diligence and consider equipment configurations, including energy infrastructure, and business schemes, while promoting the development of a standard model.
They are expected to further refine specific facility plans, implementation schedules and financing methods going forward.
