味覚糖 has announced plans to establish a new plant in Kanoya, Kagoshima Prefecture, to process ingredients for confectionery products. The investment is approximately ¥680 million, with construction scheduled to begin in August 2026.
The new plant is intended to bring production of the long-selling Osatsudokki product in-house and establish a higher-capacity production system to meet growing demand. Processing of the sliced and frozen sweet potatoes used as ingredients, which has been carried out at partner plants, is scheduled to be brought in-house in stages.
The site is expected to cover 8,676 square metres, with a total floor area of 2,738 square metres, and annual sales are projected at approximately ¥950 million. Establishing a base in Kagoshima, the company's home region, is expected to reduce freshness risks during transport and improve quality and yield.
The plant's name has not been disclosed, but the new facility is intended to make use of locally produced materials and strengthen the production system. The schedule from construction to the start of operations is construction in August 2026 and operations beginning in September 2027.
