Thirteen financial institutions in Kyushu, Okinawa and Yamaguchi jointly announced a declaration to support decarbonization and sustainable community development. The Bank of The Ryukyus and Okinawa Financial Group are participating, with the aim of expanding sustainable finance.
The ESG Investment and Financing Promotion Council, comprising 13 financial institutions in Kyushu, Okinawa and Yamaguchi, jointly issued the “Impact-Oriented Investment and Financing Declaration” on 30 October, aimed at achieving a sustainable society. Participants in the prefecture included The Bank of The Ryukyus and Okinawa Financial Group (OFG).
The declaration states that the institutions will incorporate the promotion of decarbonization, the advancement of diversity and sustainable community development that leverages regional characteristics into their financial activities, and strengthen support for businesses seeking to address social issues. The participating institutions said they would work to expand the field of sustainable finance.
Specifically, the institutions plan to bring investment and lending cases to meetings held twice a year, apply them to each bank’s activities, and share insights into investment and lending processes that contribute to cost reductions and shorter processing times, leading to improvements.
Matsubara Hiroki (松原弘樹), head of the Sustainability Promotion Office at The Bank of The Ryukyus, said, “We would like to cooperate across institutional boundaries.” Nishimura Daisuke (西村大輔), head of an office at OFG, commented, “We will collaborate where possible and contribute to the local community.”
