Japan's 1,000 Retailers Ranking was announced again this year, with total sales reaching a record high. Seven-Eleven Japan retained the top spot, while Fast Retailing rose to second place and Tsuruha Holdings ranked seventh following its business integration with Welcia Holdings.
Total sales for the 2026 ranking of Japan's 1,000 largest retailers reached ¥88.0145 trillion, an increase from the previous year. Looking at the trend over the past several years, sales recovered in 2023 and exceeded pre-pandemic levels in 2024. High growth continued in 2025 and 2026, with sales increasing from the previous year to reach a record high.
There were changes among the top 10. Fast Retailing, which ranked third the previous year, overtook FamilyMart to rise to second place. Its sales revenue was ¥3.4005 trillion for the fiscal year ended August 2025, and is expected to grow to ¥3.970 trillion for the fiscal year ending August 2026. Seven-Eleven Japan retained the top spot.
Tsuruha Holdings was outside the top 10 the previous year because it changed its fiscal year-end, but ranked seventh following its business integration with Welcia Holdings. Consolidated sales for the fiscal year ended February 2026 were ¥1.4505 trillion, while sales for the fiscal year ending February 2027 are forecast at ¥2.555 trillion.
Sales increased across business formats overall, led by SMs (food supermarkets). U.S.M.H. expanded sales through the integration with Inageya, with operating revenue of ¥963.7 billion for the fiscal year ended February 2026, propelling it to the top of the SM sector.
