Daiichi Kogyo Seiyaku announced that it has introduced an MVR-type evaporative concentrator at its Shiga Plant and expects to reduce annual CO2 emissions by approximately 2,000 tonnes through steam reuse. The project is being carried out under an energy services agreement with Daigas Energy, and operations began in July 2026.
Daiichi Kogyo Seiyaku has introduced an MVR-type evaporative concentrator in the waste-liquid concentration process at its Shiga Plant. The project is being carried out under an energy services agreement with Daigas Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of Osaka Gas.
The new equipment uses MVR technology to compress steam generated during the evaporation process and reuse it as a heat source. By significantly reducing steam consumption compared with before the installation, it is expected to reduce CO2 emissions. Operations began in July 2026.
Daiichi Kogyo Seiyaku has set GHG emissions reduction targets under its medium-term management plan SMART 2030, and the initiative at the Shiga Plant forms part of its efforts to achieve those targets. The reduction effect is expected to be approximately 2,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, representing an anticipated contribution of approximately 27% toward the company-wide target for fiscal 2030.
