Okamura Foods Co.,Ltd.'s company-operated Port store in Aomori City closed after 34 years in business. The closure was decided as part of a business reorganization following the company's stock market listing in 2023, and many customers lined up on the final day.
Okamura Foods Co.,Ltd. closed its company-operated Port store in Aomori City on 31 October. The store, which had sold salmon roe and other products, was opened by President Okamura Koichi (岡村恒一) in 1992 and had long been popular with local residents, but closed because it was loss-making.
Approximately 30 people were already lining up before opening on the final day. After the store closed, President Okamura Koichi (岡村恒一) expressed his appreciation to customers and employees. He said he regarded the decision as a painful one, while customers expressed their disappointment.
Sales had increased consistently, but the store had recently become loss-making due to higher raw material costs and other factors. After the company went public in 2023, it determined that continuing the loss-making business would be difficult and that improving its future earnings would also be difficult. It will now focus on business-to-business transactions.
