Unitree has unveiled “Superman,” a bipedal robot that exceeds the boundaries of human standing high-jump height and running speed. In a video, the CEO demonstrates the robot, which is said to achieve a standing high jump of more than 2 meters and a top running speed of approximately 12.66 meters per second.
Unitree announced “Superman,” a new bipedal robot product, on 17 August. Demonstration footage shows founder and CEO Wang Xingxing (王興興) demonstrating the robot’s jumping and running, and describes the on-site demonstration as confirming that it can jump more than 2 meters.
According to the presentation, Superman has a leg length of 0.85 meters, a standing high jump of more than 2 meters and a top running speed of approximately 12.66 meters per second. The human world record for the standing high jump is approximately 1.8 meters, while the peak speed in the 100-meter sprint is approximately 12.42 meters per second. Superman is said to have exceeded both figures.
CEO Wang said that only approximately 3 months had elapsed between Superman’s launch and its announcement, and that development was still at a stage of rapidly optimizing its motion control and stability. Unitree’s H1 robot set a new world record for running speed at 10 meters per second in April this year, and the company says Superman has established a new record for a robot.
The company also disclosed that cumulative production of its bipedal humanoid robots had reached 18,000 units as of the end of July. This figure includes only bipedal robots and excludes wheeled and quadruped robots, as well as robotic arms.
