Japan’s major printing company DNP has set out to create an environment in which employees can use data and AI autonomously, and has outlined a policy of upgrading its DX platform while balancing governance and security. Against the backdrop of P&I Innovation, which integrates printing technology with knowledge from the frontline, the conditions for achieving data democratization were discussed.
DNP explained that it aims to enable employees to use data and AI autonomously. It said that achieving data democratization requires governance and information security to be balanced, with mechanisms in place to ensure safety and quality.
Knowledge developed on the frontline remained with individuals, while data was dispersed by business and department. As the company diversified, its systems also became increasingly optimized individually, and insufficient company-wide data integration was identified as an issue.
DNP has adopted external services in standardized areas and has already migrated financial accounting, billing, payments and HR to “Fit To Standard.” However, many of its core and business systems had been extensively customized for individual optimization and were not sufficiently connected in a form that allowed data to be reused.
In light of these circumstances, DNP emphasized that it was advancing the development of an environment in which employees could use data and AI under appropriate rules, positioning data democratization at the center of its corporate DX efforts.
