The Nikkei VI rose slightly. High U.S. long-term interest rates and the release of U.S. economic data were sources of concern, and the Nikkei VI moved slightly above yesterday’s level.
The Nikkei Volatility Index (Nikkei VI) rose on the 29th by 0.23, or 0.84%, from the previous day to 27.74. Nikkei 225 futures traded mostly in negative territory, with an intraday high of 28.91 and low of 27.15.
Following a trend of declines in major U.S. market indexes, U.S. long-term interest rates firmed in overseas markets, while domestic long-term interest rates also remained elevated. This contributed to the rise in the Nikkei VI.
Market participants believe that the release of the U.S. August PCE deflator and Micron Technology’s earnings will remain sources of concern from next week onward. Against this backdrop, the Nikkei VI remained elevated and rose after trading began.
