Calbee has announced a target of reducing total greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2030. It will promote energy conservation and the adoption of renewable energy for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, while strengthening engagement with suppliers to reduce Scope 3 emissions.
In response to the global impact of climate change, the Calbee Group has set greenhouse gas reduction targets for 2030. In addition to reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, it plans to pursue reductions across the entire supply chain.
The Group has established an energy conservation committee to promote the visualization of energy use at its plants and the sharing of improvement initiatives between them. At the Kansai Biwako Plant, it is improving energy efficiency through capital investment and improvements to steam and boiler operations, while also considering the adoption of renewable energy.
Through the Smart Energy project at the Kiyohara Industrial Park, the Kiyohara Smart Energy Center uses an energy management system to optimize operations in response to fluctuations in demand, achieving energy savings and curbing greenhouse gas emissions at multiple facilities.
As a carbon offset for heat energy, the Group has begun using J-Credits to make CO2 emissions from heat energy at the New Utsunomiya Plant, Kiyohara Plant and R&D Center effectively zero.
The Group is pursuing greenhouse gas reductions through the use of steam generated from waste heat, steam generation from the biogasification of potato residues, increased purchases of electricity from renewable energy sources, and the installation of solar power generation systems at its Kyoto and Hiroshima plants.
