KDDI launched a program to support promising Japanese startups providing AI-related services in the United States and held a ceremony in San Francisco. The initiative aims to benefit from the growth of investee companies through future collaboration, and the company outlined a policy of expanding its growth areas.
KDDI analyzed that many Japanese companies, despite having strong technology, run out of funding after being blocked by local business practices. It identified this as a factor hindering the emergence of private companies with valuations of at least $1 billion, or unicorns, and established the support program on the premise that a track record in the US would be a condition for receiving investment. 5 companies will be selected in the first round.
