STMicroelectronics announced volume production shipments of automotive MEMS safety sensors. The product is its first mass-market offering since acquiring the automotive and industrial MEMS business of Dutch company NXP Semiconductors.
European semiconductor leader STMicroelectronics announced on the 26th that it would begin volume production shipments of a new range of automotive MEMS safety sensors. The products are the company's first mass-market offering since it acquired NXP Semiconductors' automotive and industrial MEMS sensor business earlier this year.
The new products integrate an accelerometer and gyroscope into a single package. They are designed for applications including collision and rollover detection, airbag deployment and vehicle stabilization control, as well as the use of radar beams.
