According to the ranking published by the Diamond Life editorial team, the companies covered were listed companies with at least 100 employees. Limited to the land transport and shipping sectors, 商船三井 ranked No. 1 with an average annual salary of ¥14.368 million, 1,329 employees and an average employee age of 38.5. Compared with ¥16.755 million in the previous year, its average annual salary fell by ¥2.387 million, a 14.2% decrease.
日本郵船 ranked No. 2, with an average annual salary of ¥14.354 million, 1,336 employees and an average employee age of 38.1. Its revenue for the fiscal year ended March 2025 increased 8.4% year on year to ¥2.5887 trillion. 飯野海運 ranked No. 3, with an average annual salary of ¥12.866 million, 211 employees and an average employee age of 38.3.
川崎汽船 ranked No. 4, with an average annual salary of ¥12.228 million, 900 employees and an average employee age of 38.5. NSユナイテッド海運 ranked No. 5, with an average annual salary of ¥11.020 million, 247 employees and an average employee age of 40.1. All five companies in the top five were shipping companies, and these were the only five with average annual salaries above ¥10 million.
