Futaba Denshi Kogyo will bring 炎重工 into the group and enter the waterborne drone business. It aims to advance bridge and dam inspections by integrating aerial and waterborne unmanned systems.
Futaba Denshi Kogyo has announced plans to bring 炎重工 into the group and make a full-scale entry into Japan’s waterborne drone market. The move is reportedly driven by growing demand for digital transformation in aquatic environments in response to aging infrastructure and labor shortages. The company will promote the development of new unmanned systems by integrating its aerial drone technologies with 炎重工’s waterborne craft technologies.
Specifically, the goal is to combine Futaba Denshi’s wireless communications, remote-control and industrial servo technologies with 炎重工’s waterborne drone design and autonomous navigation software, enabling long-duration operations. Inspections of bridges, dams and sewer systems are expected to become more efficient and safer by combining aerial surveillance with waterborne surveys.
Expansion into disaster prevention and maritime safety, including assessing damage after disasters and monitoring and patrolling ports and coastal areas, is also under consideration. The companies aim to create demand for long-duration monitoring and large-scale surveying, while establishing a framework to support more advanced AI-based autonomous control and the maintenance and management of social infrastructure in Japan and overseas.
