Mass production of humanoid robots through a partnership between China's Minth Group and AgiBot has begun in Šabac, western Serbia. The first phase represents an investment of approximately €20 million, with annual production targeted at up to 20,000 units once completed.
Mass production of humanoid robots began on 29 August in Šabac, western Serbia, through a partnership between Chinese auto parts major Minth Group and robotics developer AgiBot. According to Minth Group, this is Europe's first mass-production operation, and Serbian President Vučić attended the opening ceremony.
The factory will combine Minth Group's industrial manufacturing expertise with AgiBot's technologies in humanoid robots, artificial intelligence and robotic systems. The first phase represents an investment of approximately €20 million. Plans also call for the eventual construction of a robotics industrial park in Inđija, near Belgrade. Once completed, annual production capacity is expected to reach up to 20,000 units in total for humanoid and quadruped robots.
President Vučić said he expected annual production of more than 5,000 units and the creation of approximately 200 jobs in the initial phase. The specific product names scheduled for production have not been disclosed, although there have been cases of AgiBot robots being handled in the United Kingdom.
Potential applications for the robots include handling hazardous materials and caring for older people. The Serbian government plans to procure approximately 80 units for use at the 2027 Belgrade Expo. Minth Group is also said to have built 10 factories since entering Serbia, and some observers point to the development of the country's manufacturing and supply-chain infrastructure as a contributing factor.
