In its roster announcement on the 12th, DeNA designated catcher Matsuo Shion (松尾汐恩) under the infectious disease exception and removed him from the roster, registering catcher Mashiko Kyosuke (益子京右) as his replacement. Matsuo will therefore miss games, while Mashiko has joined the top team.
Matsuo has appeared in 70 games this season, batting .252 with 4 home runs and a .669 OPS. Defensively, his caught-stealing percentage is .220, ranking fifth in the Central League.
In May, DeNA traded catcher Yamamoto Yudai (山本祐大) to SoftBank in a one-for-two trade, after which Matsuo Shion (松尾汐恩) primarily served as the starting catcher.
The roster announcement has been reported in the context of the club reinforcing its roster, and attention is focused on developments and how Mashiko will be used going forward.
