The Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC) announced Japan’s flag bearers for the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. Fujinami Akari (藤波 朱理), a wrestler, will serve as the women’s flag bearer, while Nakamura Rimu (中村 輪夢), a BMX freestyle park cyclist, will serve as the men’s flag bearer. The opening ceremony will be held at Paloma Mizuho Stadium on 19 September, and they will take on the important role of leading the Japanese delegation.
Fujinami Akari (藤波 朱理), 22, is from Mie Prefecture. She won the gold medal in the 53kg category at the Hangzhou Asian Games and is also said to have won gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Nakamura Rimu (中村 輪夢), 24, is from Kyoto Prefecture and finished fifth at both the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The JOC has discontinued appointing a team captain in recent years as a measure to reduce the burden on athletes, and the flag bearers are positioned as the “face” of Japan.
