The Nikkei 225 rose for a 3rd straight day at the close, recovering to ¥64,659.47 after rising more than ¥705. Trading volume was approximately 4.14 billion shares and trading value approximately ¥13.8657 trillion on the TSE Prime market.
The Nikkei 225 closed ¥705.28, or 1.10%, higher than the previous day. It followed an upward trend from the opening, briefly widening its gain in afternoon trading before remaining firm despite being influenced by developments in the South Korean market.
The main factors included developments in the US market and the FOMC's decision to leave interest rates unchanged, as expected. Funds flowed mainly into semiconductor and AI-related stocks, helping lift the Nikkei 225.
Among individual stocks, Advantest rose sharply, while Tokyo Electron, SoftBank Group and Murata Manufacturing also traded higher. Hitachi and Komatsu, among others, were weak.
By sector, banks, securities and nonferrous metals stood out on the upside, while machinery, electrical equipment and steel-related stocks were notably lower. Trading expanded against the backdrop of the TOPIX rebalancing.
In today's trading, 734 TSE Prime stocks rose and 779 fell. Advantest, Tokyo Electron and SoftBank Group were among the largest positive contributors to the Nikkei 225.
