Hitomin, the only participant from Japan in the World Humanoid Robot Games being held in Beijing, completed both the 400m and 1500m races. The event is taking place in Beijing, China, where humanoid robots are competing in a series of fiercely contested events.
The World Humanoid Robot Games, held over 5 days in Beijing, China, featured fiercely contested running races among humanoid robots. Challenges involving thermal management emerged one after another during the events, creating a range of dramatic moments as the robots competed.
The only participant from Japan was Hitomin, a robot from GMO Internet Group. The robot itself was made by Chinese company Unitree. GMO provided the software controlling its running, and its challenge at the event was covered in a live broadcast.
In the 400m heats, Hitomin advanced in 10th place, but fell in the semifinals and was unable to finish. In the second final heat of the 1500m, however, it finished the race and provisionally placed 3rd.
The event highlighted the challenge of managing motor heat, and Takizawa (滝澤) said there were instances in which the robot was made to run at reduced speed as a thermal countermeasure. Technologies for thermal management are regarded as an important enabling technology for future real-world deployment.
