A complaint seeking damages from 6 Japanese companies for wartime forced mobilization has been filed with the Higher People's Court of Hebei Province, China. The plaintiffs are 50 family members, each seeking approximately CNY 370,000 in damages.
The plaintiffs filed a lawsuit against 6 Japanese companies, including Kajima Corporation and Nittetsu Mining Co., Ltd., and submitted the complaint to the Higher People's Court of Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province, on the 16th. They claim that the harm consisted of the hardships endured by the individuals who were forcibly mobilized and the emotional distress suffered by their family members.
The complaint seeks approximately CNY 370,000 per person (approximately ¥8.5 million), and it has become clear that multiple plaintiffs are making claims together. The plaintiffs also seek publication of an apology in at least 10 major media outlets in Japan and China.
China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Japan maintains the position that claims for wartime compensation had been settled under the Japan-China Joint Communiqué, and called on Japan to face history and address the legitimate demands of countries that suffered harm.
