Two former employees dismissed for disciplinary reasons over improper contracts at Japan Post Insurance filed a lawsuit in the Fukui District Court against Japan Post, seeking confirmation of their employment status and other relief. At the first oral hearing, the plaintiffs argued that their intentions had not been adequately confirmed when the contracts were concluded.
According to the complaint and other documents, the 2 plaintiffs were dismissed for disciplinary reasons in 2020 after allegedly arranging policy cancellations and switches without adequately confirming policyholders' intentions while working in insurance sales at post offices in the prefecture.
At the oral hearing that day, the plaintiffs said, “We were following the company's rules, yet it feels as though the company suddenly turned against us,” and indicated that they intended to seek confirmation of their employment status and damages.
In its answer, Japan Post argued that information about disadvantages to policyholders had not been disclosed, among other points, and indicated that it would contest the appropriateness of the disciplinary dismissals.
