Hokkaido Electric announced that it will suspend Tomakomai Power Station No. 1 and Tomakomai Joint Thermal Power Station No. 3 at the end of March 2030. The decision was made because of their age, and both units will be kept in serviceable condition after suspension so they can be restarted as emergency power sources. Tomakomai Power Station No. 1 began operating in 1973, while Tomakomai Joint Thermal Power No. 3 began operating in 1974. Each had an output of 250 MW.
Meanwhile, Ombetsu Power Station units 1 and 2 will both be retired at the end of the same month. Ombetsu Power Station began operating in 1978 and has an output of 148 MW.
