Kitaguchi Haruka (北口榛花) of Japan won the women's javelin final at the Ultimate World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, recording 68.92m to set a new Japanese record. China's 18-year-old Yang Tsiyi finished second.
Kitaguchi recorded 68.92m on her second throw, improving on the Japanese record she had set in 2023 by approximately 1.54m. An athlete from the same country took the lead during the competition, but Kitaguchi held on to the top spot.
Kitaguchi announced in January that her contract with her Czech coach had ended, and later disclosed that she was being coached by Czech javelin legend Jan Železný (ヤン・ゼレズニー). Her victory is viewed as the result of the new coaching setup.
After the competition, fans flooded social media with congratulatory messages.
