A Weathernews and ダイショー tie-up introduced an easy way to recreate authentic malatang at home. The segment explained the preparation steps and ingredient combinations using ダイショー’s soup for malatang.
To meet winter demand for hot-pot meals, Weathernews and ダイショー ran a tie-up feature introducing a way to enjoy the popular malatang at home. The feature used ダイショー’s soup for malatang, with a presenter explaining the soup’s characteristics and aroma and also discussing trends in the popularity of spicy soups.
The preparation was explained in 4 main steps: boil the soup and 200ml of water in a pot, add the meat once the liquid boils, add the vegetables after it comes back to a boil, and then add ingredients of your choice. Lamb, niúgǔ tāng and combinations including Circus dumplings were cited as specific examples.
In the tasting report, the soup’s aroma, depth and balance of spiciness were praised. The combination of the umami of pork bones, beef bones and garlic with spicy ingredients was highlighted as a distinctive feature. Suggested ingredient variations included Circus dumplings, vegetables, wood ear mushrooms, bean sprouts and noodles, and the spiciness was described as balanced enough for many people to enjoy while still being noticeable.
As future developments, derivative recipes such as malatang noodle variations and soy-milk malatang noodles were introduced, along with pairing suggestions such as beef-bone mixed shabu-shabu. The feature also announced that the products are on sale in hot-pot sections at supermarkets nationwide.
