Rengo and UnityStep AI have launched a field trial to optimise product storage locations using shipment performance data for containerboard. They aim to shorten truck loading times and reduce the burden on drivers.
UnityStep AI, which provides logistics DX services for shippers, has launched a field trial at Rengo’s Tonegawa plant to optimise product storage locations based on shipment performance data for containerboard. It will analyse and forecast past shipment trends and develop storage allocation proposals combining demand forecasting and mathematical optimisation.
Using Rengo’s operational expertise and UnityStep AI’s technology, the companies will implement the resulting storage allocation proposals at the site and assess their effectiveness, while seeking to establish data-based criteria for storage allocation decisions.
Against the backdrop of regulations capping truck drivers’ overtime, the companies are promoting logistics DX to shorten waiting and cargo-handling times and achieve White Logistics. The trial results are expected to be used in future reviews and expansion of product storage locations and in rollout to other sites.
In the future, the companies aim to optimise the entire supply chain, including integration with production planning and vehicle dispatching.
