Ichibanya will introduce a 7% late-night surcharge from 1 September, applying to dine-in and takeaway orders. It will also raise prices on 12 toppings by an average of 17%, with the dine-in price of Pork Curry increasing from ¥646 to ¥691.
Ichibanya, which operates the Curry House CoCo Ichibanya chain, announced that it will introduce a late-night surcharge at its restaurants nationwide from 1 September. The surcharge will apply to dine-in and takeaway orders, while delivery orders will be excluded.
The surcharge reflects rising costs for raw materials, labor and logistics, while the increase in dine-in prices is intended to absorb those costs. The dine-in price of the long-standing staple Pork Curry is scheduled to rise from ¥646 to ¥691.
Prices for some toppings will also increase from the same date, with 12 items affected. The average increase will be approximately 17%, ranging from ¥11 to ¥60 including tax. About one-quarter of the existing 44 toppings will be affected.
The introduction of late-night surcharges is part of a measure that is becoming more widespread in the restaurant industry, and Ichibanya said it would not revise its earnings forecasts as a result of the implementation. The impact on revenue may vary depending on nighttime customer traffic.
