JASSO held a study-abroad fair in Hanoi, with 39 Japanese university institutions exhibiting. Attendance reached 2,116, the highest since the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 2026 Japan Study Abroad Fair (Vietnam), held in Hanoi, took place on 3 and 4 October. A total of 39 Japanese university institutions participated, and attendance by Vietnamese university and high school students and others reached 2,116, the highest since the COVID-19 pandemic. The JETRO Vietnam office and JASSO information booths explained the benefits of studying in Japan to visitors.
At seminars held alongside the fair, information was provided on Japanese government scholarships and studying abroad, including tuition and living expenses. The JETRO Hanoi office also hosted a presentation titled “Alumni thriving at Japanese companies.” For the first time, the seminars were livestreamed, and the number of online viewers reached 71,579, far exceeding attendance at the venue.
According to a survey conducted at the venue, 30.7% of the 59 respondents said they were interested in working in Japan, while 36.5% said they did not intend to work overseas. Separately, another JASSO survey was reported to have found that 54.4% of international students enrolled at educational institutions in Japan hoped to find employment in Japan. These results indicate that Vietnamese students’ interest in employment in Japan remains uneven, highlighting the importance of providing information at an early stage.
