Buying led the Tokyo market at the start of the week, supported by higher US shares, and the Nikkei average temporarily recovered to ¥66,000. Semiconductor and AI-related stocks posted notable gains in the morning session, while strong earnings from Recruit Holdings also attracted buying.
The Nikkei average rebounded in the Tokyo stock market at the start of the week, with its gain temporarily exceeding ¥1,000 during the morning session before rising to ¥66,367.50. The Tokyo Stock Exchange Price Index (TOPIX) also climbed to 4,080.78 points.
Buying led the market against a backdrop of higher US shares, as weak US employment data released the previous Friday reduced expectations for a US rate hike by the Federal Reserve (FRB). Major US stock indexes generally rose.
AI-related and semiconductor-related stocks led the market higher, with moves in stocks such as semiconductor testing equipment maker ADVANTEST particularly standing out. Recruit Holdings, which reported strong earnings, also attracted buying and pushed the market higher.
