The government has formally launched a large-scale pilot project for the “源内” generative AI platform. The project covers approximately 180,000 government employees, including staff at regional offices, with the aim of assessing potential efficiency gains.
The pilot is expected to assess the results of AI-assisted document drafting and translation. A function for drafting parliamentary responses is also planned for a later stage. This is expected to enable AI to support some government administrative work.
The government has indicated that it intends to move toward full-scale use of 源内 beginning in fiscal 2027, while continuing to assess the scale of deployment and operational challenges.
源内 is a platform system developed by the Digital Agency to improve operational efficiency through the use of generative AI.
