The Nikkei 225 fell ¥3,638, while soft Dow futures weighed on trading in the Tokyo market. Although the market fell sharply in the morning session, AI-related and semiconductor stocks held their ground on the downside, and buying emerged at times ahead of the U.S. jobs report.
As of 1:50 p.m., the Nikkei 225 was down ¥3,638. The largest negative contributors included SoftBank Group, Fast Retailing and Advantest, while Daikin and Taiyo Yuden were among the top positive contributors. All sectors declined.
Dow futures were soft in after-hours trading. With the U.S. October jobs report due tonight, investors appeared reluctant to actively buy on dips. Although the Nikkei 225 fell sharply in the morning session, AI-related and semiconductor-related stocks held their ground on the downside, and there appeared to be some buying aimed at a technical rebound.
Some market participants expect signs of buybacks to emerge once the morning sell-off subsides. There is also a view that buying may continue to emerge, particularly in AI-related and semiconductor stocks.
