Suzuki announced plans to launch its first kei passenger EV, the e SKY, in autumn 2026. Based on the Easy to Switch development concept, the model is positioned as one that combines everyday practicality with quiet operation.
On 24 August, Suzuki published advance information on the new kei passenger EV e SKY on its official website, stating that its formal announcement in Japan and launch are scheduled for autumn 2026. Development is focused on the everyday uses of kei cars, including commuting, shopping and transporting family members.
The new e SKY is based on the Easy to Switch development concept and is designed to enable a smooth transition from conventional gasoline-powered vehicles to an EV. Its stated features include smooth acceleration and the high level of quietness characteristic of EVs, while retaining the practicality expected of a kei car.
The anticipated market price is approximately ¥2.5 million to ¥3 million, while the national CEV subsidy is expected to be approximately ¥580,000 at most. Some believe that fully utilizing the subsidy could bring the effective purchase cost below ¥2 million.
